Locke has been involved in the community since moving to the neighborhood in 2002. In 2003, he served on the Silver Lake Governing Board, founded the Silver Lake Beautification Committee the same year and was Vice Chair in 2004. Working with neighbors and leading by example, Occidental Boulevard has undergone dramatic improvement in the last five years. Argentine-born Architect Gustavo Gubel designed two imposing neo-Mayan ‘pyramids’ just up the street and San Francisco-based Architect Thomas Blanchard has designed a remodel of half a duplex on the same block (now under construction) amongst other transformations.
Landscape designer Rudy Zuzow transformed the terraced hillside lot into a sensory experience, adding gurgling fountains, cascading fragrant jasmine and statuary that artist James Etue described as ‘It’s a jungle up there!’
The home, located at 1308 N. Occidental Blvd. in Silver Lake, is on the market and listed for sale at $665,000 (April 2008).
Glass block detailing around the glass entrance door provides additional light and a sense of spaciousness to the interiors.
