Originally built in 1924, Engine Company No. 56 is one of the few Spanish Colonial Revival style bungalows that served as fire stations still standing. The station has been repurposed as a restaurant/bar, The Edendale Grill, The engine room has been transformed into a very appealing pub, Mixville, popular with locals.
The site was designated a Historic-Cultural Landmark (No. 56) by the City of Los Angeles Cultural Heritage Commission, declared on January 12, 1988. Engine Company No. 56 is located at 2838 Rowena Avenue.
